One day in September, I enjoyed a stay at Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu with my family. Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu is located inside Haneda Airport Terminal 2, offering direct access to the terminal.
Rather than simply using Haneda Airport as a place to catch a flight, we enjoyed the airport itself as part of our journey. From watching aircraft movements from our airport view room to exploring airport dining, souvenirs, and unique experiences, this guide shares our stay at the hotel and how to enjoy Haneda Airport beyond flying.

Haneda Innovation City
Before heading to the hotel, we made a quick stop at Haneda Innovation City.
Haneda Innovation City is a multi-purpose complex directly connected to Tenkubashi Station. The rooftop area offers a nice view of Haneda Airport’s aircraft parking area. With a free foot bath available, it is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy watching the airport, especially when the weather is cooler.
A runway is located nearby, but its use depends on the wind conditions and airport operations. When we visited, we did not see any aircraft taking off or landing from this runway.
Unlike Haneda Airport Garden, which I introduced in my previous article, Haneda Innovation City is not mainly focused on shopping. Instead, it is a unique complex with research facilities, art spaces, conference facilities, and live event venues.
There is also Hotel Metropolitan Haneda, with rooms offering views of Haneda Airport. For those who love watching planes but prefer a more relaxed stay away from the busy atmosphere of the airport terminals, it can be a wonderful choice.
Riding the Tokyo Monorail
After enjoying the airport views, we took the Tokyo Monorail to Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station, where Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu is directly connected.
The Tokyo Monorail has a unique interior layout, with raised sections and steps created to house the tires and other equipment underneath the train. If you can find a seat in the higher middle section, I recommend it, as you can enjoy a better view from there.
Unlike the Keikyu Line, which travels underground for much of the route, the Tokyo Monorail allows passengers to enjoy views of Tokyo from above.
It takes only about 5 minutes by Tokyo Monorail from Tenkubashi Station to Haneda Airport Terminal 2 Station. If you are coming from central Tokyo, you can take the Tokyo Monorail from Hamamatsucho Station on the JR Yamanote Line, which takes about 25 minutes.
Even the journey to Haneda Airport can be part of the experience. Taking the Tokyo Monorail allows you to enjoy unique views of Tokyo and adds a little excitement before arriving at the airport.
Haneda Airport Terminal 2
We arrived underground and took the escalator up to the Terminal 2 departure lobby, where Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu is located.
Taking the escalator up through the spacious atrium was a lovely part of the experience. For those catching a flight afterward, it must make the journey feel even more special.
The airport interior was decorated with delicate lines in soft blue and white, giving it a fresh and elegant feel.
The departure lobby had a variety of souvenir shops and stores offering airport bento boxes. Of course, I also found Tokyo Banana, one of Tokyo’s most popular souvenirs.
A Stay at Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu
After taking our time enjoying the airport atmosphere, we headed to Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu and checked in.
We stayed in a Deluxe Twin Room with an airport view on the runway side of the hotel. These rooms are located on the 4th and 5th floors. For guests traveling with three people, the 4th-floor rooms can accommodate an extra bed. The room’s light and refreshing design felt like a perfect match for the atmosphere of Haneda Airport Terminal 2.
Similar to the ANA Crowne Plaza Narita featured in my previous article, Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu also offers airport view rooms that can be selected at the time of booking.
If you would like to enjoy the aircraft views from your room, I recommend checking the available room types when making your reservation.
Since Terminal 2 is the main terminal for ANA domestic flights, guests can often enjoy views of ANA aircraft from the hotel.
On this day, I couldn’t see any takeoffs or landings from the room, but I could clearly see the ground crew guiding aircraft.
I imagined that standing beside such enormous aircraft every day must be an amazing experience from their perspective.
Airplane-Themed Treats
I picked up the hotel’s signature airplane-shaped cream puff at Flyer’s Table after ordering it in advance.
One fun detail is that you can request your favorite words to be added to the airplane’s wing when reserving this cream puff. I chose “A350” because it was an aircraft I had enjoyed flying on before. Later, I realized that ANA does not operate the A350.
The cream puff was about the size of my palm and quite substantial. It was filled with fresh-cut fruit, rich custard cream, and plenty of whipped cream. When I told the staff that I planned to eat it in my room, they kindly lent me some cutlery.
Night Views from the Room
At night, the blue and green lights on the airport grounds created a beautiful view.
Although only two aircraft appear in this photo, more ANA planes gradually arrived, and I could see more than ten aircraft parked on the apron as the evening went on.
For dinner, we picked up takeout from a restaurant in the airport and spent a relaxing evening enjoying the changing aircraft views from our room.
Breakfast with an Airport View
In the morning, the room once again offered a beautiful open view of the airport.
Although the breakfast at Flyer’s Table looked tempting, we decided to head to the observation deck instead because the restaurant does not offer views of the airport.
We picked up some bread from PAUL, a famous French bakery, along with coffee and yogurt from a convenience store, and enjoyed a simple breakfast.
The observation deck offered covered seating and tables, making it a comfortable place to enjoy breakfast while taking in the open airport views. There was nothing quite like waking up to this view and enjoying a delicious breakfast while watching the airport come to life.
After taking our time and enjoying breakfast, we headed back to our room.
Aircraft I Saw from the Room
On this day, I was lucky enough to see aircraft taking off from the runway while staying in my room.
From our room, we were able to spot not only ANA aircraft but also a Star Wars-themed aircraft.
We were also able to spot ANA’s green aircraft, which represents the airline’s efforts toward a more environmentally friendly future.
The previous day, we also saw AIRDO’s Pokémon-themed aircraft, and we enjoyed discovering a variety of different planes during our stay.
Because Haneda Airport operates several runways, takeoffs and landings were not guaranteed during our stay. However, we enjoyed seeing a variety of aircraft and beautiful views of planes with the sea and Tokyo’s cityscape in the background.
Good to know
I was already a member of Tokyu Hotels’ Comfort Members Program, which allowed us to extend our checkout time by one hour. We took our time enjoying the room until noon, then checked out and went to get lunch. It is a great option for anyone planning to stay at a Tokyu Hotel.

Lunch and Food souvenirs
After checking out, we stopped by Soraben Kobo, located on the same floor as the hotel. This specialty shop offers a variety of soraben (airport bento), designed to be easy to eat on an airplane.
Bento
For lunch, I chose an anago (conger eel) stick sushi, made with tender simmered conger eel and vinegared rice.
The tender conger eel paired beautifully with the vinegared rice. With bites of pickled ginger in between, I finished it in no time.
According to the official website, the sushi features a two-layer rice structure, with vinegared rice and rice cooked in the conger eel’s simmering broth. The eel skin is lightly grilled for a fragrant finish. The sushi was already cut into bite-sized pieces, making it easy to eat. It was simple, but I loved every bite.
It is also available as an ekiben (train station bento) at Tokyo Station. I would happily buy it again if I ever come across it. If you are interested in exploring more Japanese ekiben, I also shared my experience trying another bento I bought at Tokyo Station.
For dessert, I had ube ice cream at Blue Seal, a popular ice cream shop in Okinawa Prefecture.
As I mentioned in my previous article, Okinawa is known for producing beni imo (Okinawan purple sweet potatoes), but ube (purple yam) flavor, which is especially popular in the Philippines and other countries, is also a favorite here.
Haneda Airport offers much more than just Tokyo specialties—you can also enjoy delicious foods from across Japan and around the world.
Food souvenirs
For food souvenirs, I picked up ANA ready-to-eat curry, Traveling Jagariko, and ANA blue gummy candies at ANA FESTA.
This rich, flavorful curry was created under the supervision of a chef from ANA’s First Class service.
Since it contains meat, it may be difficult to bring it overseas depending on the destination country’s regulations. However, Japanese convenience stores also sell rice separately, so it could be a fun way to experience Japanese-style curry during your stay in Japan.
Jagarico is a popular potato snack enjoyed throughout Japan. However, this special version was created with the concept of allowing you to experience the flavors of representative regional dashi (Japanese soup stock) in every bite. It also comes in a resealable package, making it convenient to carry while traveling.
Ao Gumi is an airplane-themed gummy candy with two shapes: airplanes and clouds. The two types have different flavors and are designed to create a new flavor when eaten together. I couldn’t really tell if the taste changed, but I enjoyed their sweet and slightly tangy flavor.
As neither the gummies nor Traveling Jagarico contain meat-derived ingredients, they may be suitable as souvenirs to bring back to some countries, depending on the import regulations of your destination. If you plan to bring these items home, it is always a good idea to check the import regulations of your destination country in advance.

Staying at Haneda Excel Hotel Tokyu was a wonderful way to enjoy Haneda Airport beyond simply catching a flight. From watching aircraft movements from the room to exploring the airport’s shops and restaurants, the experience felt like a small getaway.
I especially enjoyed discovering different aircraft, enjoying a simple breakfast on the observation deck, and trying local flavors through airport bento and souvenirs. Haneda Airport offers much more than just a place to travel—it is also a destination where you can enjoy food, shopping, and unique experiences.

Haneda Airport is easily accessible by either the Tokyo Monorail or the Keikyu Line. Both connect directly to the airport terminals from central Tokyo.

The Tokyo Monorail is especially convenient for travelers using the JR Yamanote Line, with direct access from Hamamatsucho Station. Since it runs on an elevated track, the ride offers great views of Tokyo Bay and the surrounding canals.
Keikyu Line

The Keikyu Line is especially convenient if you are traveling from central Tokyo by subway. Although parts of the route run at ground level, if you are afraid of heights, the Keikyu Line may be the more comfortable option.
