Looking for beautiful rose gardens near Tokyo? From late May to early June is one of the best times to enjoy them. In this guide, I’ll introduce three of my favorite spots—Tokyo Garden Terrace, KioichoKyu-Furukawa Gardens and Keisei Rose Garden. Each offers a completely different atmosphere, and I’ll introduce the highlights, cafés, rose-themed sweets, and practical tips to help you plan your visit.
In addition, many rose gardens around Tokyo also offer beautiful autumn blooms around October and November. I hope this guide will be useful not only for spring outings but also for autumn trips.

Rose garden 1 – Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho
An elegant urban spot where seasonal roses bloom around a historic mansion
Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho is directly connected to Nagatacho Station on the Tokyo Metro, in central Tokyo near Akasaka and the National Diet Building. There is no admission fee. It’s also just a short walk from Hotel New Otani Tokyo, featured in one of my previous posts.
The photo above shows the rose garden at Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho. At the center of the rose garden stands the historic Akasaka Prince Classic House, once the annex of the Akasaka Prince Hotel, surrounded by a beautiful variety of roses.
Highlights
Rose-covered arches line the plaza, creating a beautiful walkway surrounded by colorful blooms.
It was a lovely place for a relaxing stroll, and I even spotted a few visitors taking photos with their dogs among the roses.
When I visited, the Rose Festival had just begun, and many of the roses were already in full bloom. I also noticed that additional flower beds were still being prepared in the plaza, so it looked like the gardens would continue to become even more beautiful throughout the festival.
The garden was filled with a wonderful variety of roses, from soft yellow blooms to delicate clusters of tiny, wild rose-like flowers, each with its own unique charm. I was also able to get close to the blooms, allowing me to fully appreciate their delicate fragrance.
The main plaza is surrounded by tall office buildings, creating a comfortable shade in the afternoon.
Without needing a parasol, I was able to stroll around with my camera and fully enjoy the beautiful roses at a relaxed pace.
Rose Treats
The Classic House is home to La Maison Kioi, an elegant restaurant set inside this historic building. After taking a leisurely walk through the beautiful rose archways, I headed there to enjoy some delightful rose-themed sweets.
The terrace features an elegant loggia, creating a beautiful semi-outdoor space to relax and enjoy the view.
In addition to the terrace, the café also offers indoor seating near the entrance. While you won’t have a view of the roses, the beautiful classic interior provides a charming atmosphere of its own.
I ordered the Dessert Set for ¥2,000 (approx. $12.3 / €10.8).
You can choose from around three dessert options, and there is also a wide selection of drinks, including coffee and tea.
The restaurant’s famous Basque cheesecake looked tempting, but since I was visiting a rose garden, I decided to try one of the rose-themed desserts instead. For my drink, I chose a fragrant rose tea to complete the experience.
I also had the chance to admire the elegant interior of the Classic House near the entrance. Today, the building is open only to customers using the restaurant or other facilities.
The grand wooden staircase and beautiful stained-glass windows were breathtaking. Surrounded by these elegant architectural details, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of grace and timeless charm.
The beautifully blooming roses and the stately English Tudor-style Classic House complemented each other perfectly. The historic architecture provided a stunning backdrop for the flowers, while the vibrant roses added warmth and color to the elegant building.
I stepped back outside and spent a little more time admiring the roses before heading home. It was the perfect way to end my visit.
Today, The Prince Gallery Tokyo Kioicho stands next to the beautifully preserved mansion. If you’re celebrating a special occasion or looking for a luxurious stay in Tokyo, it’s a wonderful place to experience the elegance of this historic setting.
Good to Know
Access from Nagatacho Station
Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho is directly connected to Nagatacho Station. However, since several subway lines serve the station, you may need to walk quite a distance through the station depending on which line you arrive on. If possible, use Nagatacho Station on the Namboku Line (N07), as Exit 9a is the closest exit to the complex.
Dining Options at Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho
Tokyo Garden Terrace Kioicho offers a great selection of dining options. In addition to its elegant restaurants, there are also casual choices such as a bakery café, an Italian restaurant, and weekday food trucks, making it easy to find something for lunch.
Visiting La Maison Kioi
At lunchtime, you can enjoy a full meal or simply stop by for coffee and dessert. While reservations are accepted only for the lunch menu and afternoon tea, you can still visit for coffee or dessert without a reservation if there are seats available.
Restoration work may affect access to the Classic House. Please check the official website for the latest information before your visit.
Rose garden 2 – Kyu-Furukawa Gardens
A historic garden featuring a Western-style mansion and a Japanese garden
Kyu-Furukawa Gardens is about a 12-minute walk from Komagome Station, which is served by the JR Yamanote Line and Tokyo Metro Namboku Line in northern Tokyo. Alternatively, you can take the small local community bus from Komagome Station. The journey takes about five minutes, and the garden is the third stop.
I’ve featured Kyu-Furukawa Gardens in a previous article, but it’s worth visiting again—especially during rose season. Once the residence of the Furukawa family, one of Japan’s leading industrial families, it is now famous for its beautiful Western-style rose garden and traditional Japanese garden.
Today, Kyu-Furukawa Gardens is managed by the Tokyo Metropolitan Government. General admission is just ¥150 (approx. $0.9 / €0.8), making it an affordable place to enjoy one of Tokyo’s most beautiful rose gardens.
Highlights
It’s a popular destination where visitors can enjoy both a historic Western-style mansion and beautiful roses.
The mansion and the Western-style garden were designed by Josiah Conder, a British architect who contributed greatly to the development of Western-style architecture in Japan. Both the historic mansion and the gardens are still on their original site, allowing visitors to experience the estate in its original setting.
Surrounded by tall trees, the gardens are filled with lush greenery, making it easy to forget you’re in Tokyo.
The garden featured a wonderful variety of roses, from elegant rosette-shaped blooms to magnificent large flowers.
In addition to the roses, you can also enjoy the beautiful Japanese garden here, as I mentioned in my previous article. Depending on the season, visitors can also enjoy a traditional matcha tea experience at the Japanese tea house, complete with Japanese sweets.
On this visit, I decided to stop by the café inside the historic mansion.
Rose Treats
The first floor of the mansion is home to a charming cafe, where some seats allow you to enjoy a beautiful view overlooking the garden.
Today, the mansion is home to the Otani Art Museum, which is open to the public with a general admission fee of ¥500 (approx. $3.1 / €2.7).
You do not need to pay admission if you are only using the cafe. However, an admission fee is required if you plan to visit the other areas of the building afterward.
I chose the Rose Cake available during the Rose Festival, served with a cup of rose tea. The cake set was ¥1,400 (approx. $8.6 / €7.5).
Served in a charming Wedgwood cup and saucer, it was a lovely way to take a break and enjoy a relaxing moment surrounded by history. The interior of the room was beautifully preserved, and the elegant ceiling, columns, and window frames created a wonderful harmony with the roses blooming outside.
Photography, including photos of food and drinks, is not allowed inside the building in order to preserve the historic interiors.
For me, being able to enjoy the beauty and fragrance of the roses, savor a rose-themed cake and tea, and slowly explore the historic mansion was a truly memorable and moving experience.
Although the building has a Western-style appearance, the interior features traditional Japanese rooms and a kura (a traditional Japanese storehouse), making it a fascinating example of a blend of Western and Japanese architectural styles. I highly recommend visiting the building as well.
Good to Know
Tips for Visiting During the Rose Festival
I visited on a weekday around 11:00 a.m., shortly after the Rose Festival began, and there were already many visitors. Although there was a queue for tickets, I didn’t have to wait long. During the festival period, the garden sometimes opens earlier than usual and hosts special events such as concerts, so I recommend checking the official website before your visit.
Also, during the Rose Festival, the rose garden area can become crowded, and parasols are not permitted there for safety reasons. Instead, I recommend bringing a hat for sun protection.
In recent years, spring in Tokyo can bring surprisingly hot days. Since the rose garden is completely open with no roof, the flowers may become affected by the heat. While the best time to visit depends on the blooming conditions each year, I recommend visiting earlier rather than later to enjoy the roses at their best.
Enjoying Tea at the Historic Mansion
The café opens at 11:00 a.m., with a 40-minute time limit for guests. When I arrived, it was already full, so I waited around 15–20 minutes for a table. There are two separate queues—one for visiting the building and one for the tea room—so be sure to join the correct line.
Access Information
For detailed access information, please refer to my previous article. A small community bus, known as a local neighborhood bus, runs from Komagome Station to Kyu-Furukawa Gardens. However, it operates on a circular route, meaning that buses only run in one direction.
When returning to Komagome Station, you can take a bus via the Oji Station route, which is the same route I used to get there, or choose the Tabata Station route instead. I have included the details in the information section below.
Rose garden 3 – Keisei Rose Garden
One of the largest and most colorful rose gardens near Tokyo
Keisei Rose Garden is located about 1.4 km from Yachiyo-Midorigaoka Station in Chiba Prefecture. From Tokyo Station, the journey takes around 50 minutes, and the garden is then about a 5-minute bus ride from the station.
Keisei Rose Garden is one of the largest rose gardens in the Tokyo area, featuring a wide variety of roses in a beautifully designed landscape. With thousands of roses blooming in different seasons, it is a popular destination for flower lovers. Admission fees vary by season. During the rose season, adult admission is ¥2,000 (approx. $12.3 / €10.8).
Highlights
I visited on a weekday in early June, but the roses seemed to be slightly past their peak.
However, the vast rose garden had a slightly European atmosphere, and even roses that were beginning to fade under the summer-like sunlight inspired my imagination.
Since the roses were not surrounded by fences, I was able to enjoy their beauty up close. The small double-flowered roses bloomed so abundantly that they reached far above my head, creating a scene that looked as if bouquets of flowers had been layered on top of each other. I took my time enjoying the roses, breathing in their fragrance and admiring them from different angles.
The shaded pathways winding beneath the tall trees were one of my favorite parts of the garden.
As I followed these paths, I felt as though a vast meadow stretched beyond the garden, creating a wonderful sense of openness.
On the other hand, I also came across this unique art installation.
I found an artwork called “Light and Rose Installation” inside the large greenhouse. The piece was beautiful as colorful light passed through its surface, but the rainbow-like shadows it cast were equally captivating. I felt as if I had stepped inside a giant soap bubble.
According to the official website, it is part of the garden’s permanent exhibition. In addition to the roses, Keisei Rose Garden has many charming photo spots. I think it is a perfect destination for those who want to enjoy the flowers while taking beautiful and memorable photos.
When I visited, I noticed that the hydrangeas were starting to bloom.
I visited the garden to see the roses, but the hydrangea path was also a wonderful surprise. I was walking there alone, and the gentle breeze swayed the white hydrangeas softly, creating a peaceful and unforgettable moment.
After walking around the garden and taking in the sights, I made my way to the café “Patio,” which offers a beautiful panoramic view of the rose garden.
Rose Treats
I ordered Keisei Rose Garden’s signature rose and milk swirl soft-serve ice cream (¥500, approx. $3.1 / €2.7).
The soft-serve had a subtle rose aroma that blended perfectly with the creamy milk flavor. Sitting on the terrace overlooking the rose garden, I relaxed beneath the pergola, enjoyed the gentle breeze, and cooled down while taking in the beautiful view. Feeling refreshed after a relaxing break, I headed home with wonderful memories of the garden.
Good to Know
Yachiyo-Midorigaoka Station in Chiba Prefecture is on the Toyo Rapid Railway Line.
The Toyo Rapid Railway Line offers direct service with the Tokyo Metro Tozai Line. If you take a train bound for the Toyo Rapid Railway (such as those for Toyo-Katsutadai) from the Tozai Line, you can reach Yachiyo-Midorigaoka Station without changing trains. For example, it takes about 45 minutes from Nihombashi or Otemachi.
From the station, you can take a local bus to the garden. If you prefer a quicker option, there is also a taxi stand at the bus terminal.
When I visited, I waited for about 15 minutes, but the bus did not arrive. Another visitor then asked if I would like to share a taxi to the garden, so we headed there together. I believe the one-way fare was less than ¥1,000, so splitting the cost made it very reasonable. She was a solo traveler from Vietnam, and I admired her adventurous spirit. Our short taxi ride turned into a fun and memorable conversation.
In addition, the garden’s opening hours vary by month, so be sure to check the official website before your visit.

Each of these three rose gardens offers a unique experience, from historic architecture and elegant city scenery to vast landscapes filled with colorful blooms. I hope this guide helps you find the perfect place to enjoy Tokyo’s beautiful rose season.
