This summer was scorching, making it hard to go outside. With a long vacation not possible due to my kids’ schedules, Hogwarts Legacy became my perfect home getaway.

This guide isn’t just a list of items—it’s about enjoying your own story through fashion. Whether you’re a busy parent or a fan who loves customizing your character, I hope these styling ideas inspire you to find the perfect look using the game’s standard features.

What you will find in this guide:

  • 10+ Outfit Ideas: From clever uniform layers to elegant winter coats.
  • Hairstyle & Accessories: Tips for matching hair with hats and picking the perfect eyewear.
  • Emily on Switch (No Mods): See how stylish she can look—no mods needed.

My Styling Concept

I hope to share styling ideas for Hogwarts from the perspective of an adult woman and a mother. Rather than simply explaining how to obtain equipment, I aim to inspire your creativity, showing how to craft a personalized world within limited conditions—on the Switch version, without mods.

Emily, a pink-haired witch wearing a red top hat, and a blue scarfA Mother’s Perspective

I’m a mother in my forties, but it feels as if I’m taking photos of my daughter. This is how she looks without any face accessories, and she’s just as beautiful in this look. Taking photos became truly enjoyable as I experimented with different angles to capture Emily beautifully. Surrounded by stunning backgrounds, I dressed my character in lovely outfits and snapped countless shots.

At the beginning of the game, I was too busy advancing the story to care much about my character’s appearance. Yet, as the story approached its conclusion, I found myself wishing it wouldn’t end. I experimented with different items I owned, dressing Emily in them. Gradually, she started to look really fashionable. But if she were real, she might not let me take so many pictures!

Exploring the Magical Interiors

In this game, while the beautiful landscapes are captivating, the elegance of the interiors is equally enchanting. Here’s the Gryffindor common room. In the daytime, students fill the space, talking and having fun. The interior is mostly in Gryffindor red, filled with lovely furniture and decorations.

Beautiful Common Room

Just wandering around this room makes me feel enchanted. With gorgeous tapestries featuring a forest of trees, lamps adorned with fringes, and solid wrought-iron lighting on the grand beams, the room feels magical. And of course, you’ll find moving portraits and the pale ghosts roaming the castle. In the game, I noticed there’s no option to sit on the sofa. It would have been even better if that were possible! Hogwarts has four houses, as you probably know, so I can’t wait to peek into the other houses’ common rooms.

Styling the School Uniform

I created Emily, a Gryffindor student, as my first character.

Initially, she styled her long hair into a relaxed bun at the back of her head. With Silver-rimmed circular spectacles reminiscent of Harry Potter and a strong, determined expression, she looks ready for anything. Wearing her Traditional School Robe over her uniform, she wandered around the school, exploring every corner.

A New Look at the Salon

I had her hair trimmed to shoulder length at a salon in the nearby town and wrapped a Gryffindor House Emblem Scarf, which serves as a stylish accent from behind, around her. Emily’s transformation, however, is far from over.

What a wonderful view! Since I’m controlling the character myself, it feels like I’m really there. She did so many things I never could—running to the next town, soaring through the skies, and taking walks at night.

How to Gain Experience

I love that I can gain experience not just through battle, but by discovering the world through Field Guide pages. It feels so realistic and wonderful that you can gain experience by exploring the world and helping people with their problems.

Layering Coats over the Uniform

Hogsmeade Station in the fall is just beautiful. The red stairs, autumn leaves, and stone buildings make the green coat pop perfectly. This kind of view doesn’t exist back home in Japan, and I can’t stop staring in awe. Since I love taking photos, I put finishing the game aside and kept capturing Emily at all the beautiful spots.

The Classic Draconic Longcoat

Keeping her shoulder-length hair and signature round glasses, I dressed her in the green Draconic Longcoat—tailored to fit perfectly—layered over the Embroidered Formal Uniform with a burgundy ribbon, a look I loved so much I found it hard to switch her out of it even toward the end of the game.

Soaring through the open sky

Emily learned how to ride a broom in class, but at first, I couldn’t figure out how to take it out, so I spent a while exploring on foot. Once I finally got the hang of it, I could fully enjoy the breathtaking views!

How to Fly on Switch

In Hogwarts Legacy on the Switch, to mount your broom, hold the L Button and press A. In other words, this means opening the tool wheel and pressing A to select the broom.

Sophisticated Burgundy Styles

Winter has arrived in the game, and the Great Hall is transformed with Christmas decorations—it’s truly gorgeous. Christmas decorations are up not only here, but all around the castle and the town as well.

Perfect red for the festive season

I picked the Check Crimson Overcoat, and it looks great with her beloved burgundy ribbon. The burgundy coat looks wonderful. I’ve hidden the scarf so it doesn’t cover the cute ribbon. In a color this understated, it might even work as real-life fashion.

I’ve hidden the scarf so it doesn’t cover the cute ribbon. In Hogwarts Legacy, you can change your appearance to any item you’ve previously collected or even hide certain pieces, all while keeping your strongest gear equipped.

Styling Tip: Keep Your Best Gear, Change Your Look

In Hogwarts Legacy, you don’t have to sacrifice style for strength! You can change your character’s appearance to any item you’ve previously collected, while keeping your strongest gear equipped. This allows Emily to stay fashionable in her favorite winter coats without losing any defense power.

Burgundy Robe

The moment you step out of a building or emerge from a tunnel, the scenery opens up beautifully—it’s a breathtaking sight you don’t want to miss.

The luxurious Gryffindor robe

I love how the luxurious Patterned House Robe stands out in the snowy white and smoky-blue landscape. While it looks comfortable, it also appears a bit chilly.

Her hairstyle got a makeover at the salon—now she’s rocking a tidy chignon. Since the hairstylist at the Hogsmeade salon is a witch, you can magically switch between short and long hair anytime. While wearing a scarf with your hair down looks lovely and cozy, in reality, it often gets messy and tangled. That’s why, in the real world, I personally prefer putting my hair up when wearing a scarf.

Beyond the Uniform

The Moment Has Come—But Is It Too Much? Finally graduated from the school uniform. After staying in uniform for almost the entire journey, this change felt so special to me.

Winter Coat & Dress

I mentioned before that the robe looked slightly chilly, and now I found an actual winter coat! I really love how The Crimson Winter Coat features raglan sleeves, with bold red material and bright blue borders that create a beautiful contrast.  The coat is a bit flashy, but matching it with an elegant skirt in the same color tones keeps the look grounded.

The Starry-Eyed Seer’s Scarf and Blue Leather Gloves are blue as well. I’m glad this outfit looks warmer than the last one. I really adore this coat and I’m totally smitten with it! It turns out this formal dress is quite a popular choice among players. As its name suggests, this formal outfit features refined colors and a slender silhouette, yet it still carries a subtle sense of elegance—perhaps that’s the secret behind its popularity.

Hats & Accessories

Now that Emily, my main character, has swapped her uniform for other items, she’s become even more stylish in the world of Hogwarts Legacy. She’s experimenting with a new hairstyle, too. The main image shows Emily in a red and blue styling, but I’ve also tried many other items.

A variety of face items

I was surprised to find that with short hair or tied-up styles, a hat completely hid it! Thinking long hair might be cuter after all, I rushed to the salon. This hat is a Crimson Top Hat with a single light blue feather, and Emily’s pink hair worn down looks absolutely perfect with it. Even the fun, colored Charms Professor Spectacles suit her beautifully. The Avenging Wolf Mask adds a mysterious touch, completely transforming her look, while the Avenging Owl Mask is just as stylish with its sharp, striking design.

Styling Tip: Matching Hats with Hairstyles

In Hogwarts Legacy, I found that longer hairstyles often look better with hats. When the character has short hair, a hat can sometimes hide it completely, making the look a bit unbalanced. If you want to rock a Top Hat or a Witch Hat, try switching to a longer hairstyle at the Hogsmeade salon for a more stylish silhouette!

Mixing and Matching Face Items

Although a bit hard to see, the Hogwarts Regalia Spectacles and Silver Wooden Spectacles in the middle photo of the top row look stylish even by modern standards.

There are still many wonderful hats: the Tasselled Kufi, the Troll Hat , and Zonko’s Chief Praknster Hat. I somehow got it while advancing through the story without realizing it. The Emily I introduced before looked nice in her uniform, but she’s become so much more stylish, and I’ve completely gotten hooked on this dress-up game!

Bold Colors in the Snow

After trying out various combinations, I settled on this look for now:

Red and blue styling

The red and blue styling is nicely complemented by a small touch of brown from the Troll Hat’s feather. Riding a broom and flying to high places with beautiful views is a truly pleasant experience. The styling features a heavy long coat paired with a long dress, hair worn down, and a top hat, creating an overall high-volume look—perfect for cold weather. The colors are sophisticated and muted, yet vivid enough to stand out beautifully against the white, snowy landscape.

Trying a Witch Hat

I changed her hair to brown and added the Indigo Sorcerer Hat. For her outfit, I swapped the winter red coat for the Illustrious Emerald Silk Robe. Regardless of the colors you choose, limiting the number of shades in your outfit is a simple way to instantly elevate your style.

Emily in a flower field

I can’t help but feel excited when I see a flower field like this! Since you rarely get defeated by enemies in Story Mode, I can relax and fully immerse myself in the wonderful atmosphere of the world. I especially love these lavender-like purple flowers; they really capture that European atmosphere. There are also tall plants and so many other varieties beautifully rendered in the game, and taking a stroll through places like this has become one of my favorite ways to enjoy the game.

Emily has flown quite high on her broomstick. The view from here is breathtaking! Finding these high vantage points has become one of my favorite ways to admire my character’s styling against the vast landscape. Just be sure to keep your balance while you’re taking photos—you wouldn’t want to take an unexpected tumble from such a beautiful height!

Wearing the Black Top Hat

This time, Emily tried on the Rugged Overcoat she brought from home.

Black and Brown Styling

Wearing the black High Top Hat, the black round glasses serve as a nice accent, giving her a slightly smarter look. Also, her purple hair matches nicely with the subdued colors of her outfit. In most games, you usually never wear your starting outfit again once you find better gear, but Hogwarts Legacy is different. I’m so happy that I can keep wearing my favorite coat whenever I want.

Silver Hair

Now I’ve switched her outfit back to the red coat, and this time I’ve changed her hair to silver. In Japan, silver or gold hair can look flashy, but when paired with a bold outfit like this, it actually creates a more balanced and calm impression.

Character & Themed Styles

While exploring the world, I came across the ruins of an old Quidditch pitch, so I decided to change into a uniform.

At the ruins of the Quidditch pitch

I equipped the Hogwarts house broom, the Quidditch Cape, the Quidditch captain’s uniform, Unbeatable Quidditch Gloves, and the Quidditch goggles. I already had another Quidditch uniform, but this captain’s uniform looks cooler.

I styled her hair into a chignon to make it easier for her to see around. There are no Quidditch matches in the game, but if there were, it would be so exhilarating. The contrast between a beautifully styled updo and the active energy of the sport look absolutely stunning.

Duellist Attire

Now, I also had a boyish outfit like this.

Blue and Brown Styling

This is the Duellist Attire, and the combination of a rolled-up blue shirt and brown traditional British-style breeches looks absolutely adorable. I paired the Grey Quidditch Gloves with the Brushed wool cape.

In this photo, she appears to be wearing the Rugged Duelling Gloves. The blue-and-brown outfit is accented with a touch of red in the tie, and it looks comfortable and easy to move in. The Duelist’s outfit actually looks quite like a school uniform. It feels like a special, combat-ready version of our student attire.

This Brushed Wool Cape features a brown fabric with shimmering blue and gold stripes, but its muted colors make it one of my favorites.

The Joy of Styling Without Mods

I’ve heard there are mods to enhance character visuals, but I personally prefer the charm of styling without them. Even on the Nintendo Switch, Emily can look incredibly stylish using only the variety of in-game items.

With a wardrobe full of possibilities, I’m excited to continue exploring new outfits and enjoying our dress-up adventures together. This simple approach shows that creativity and fun don’t require extra tools—just imagination and a love for the game.

Conclusion

Through Emily’s journey, I realized that the true joy of Hogwarts Legacy lies not just in exploring its magical world, but in creating your own stories through fashion. Whether layering coats over uniforms, experimenting with hats and scarves, or mixing colorful hairstyles with elegant robes, the game allows endless self-expression.

For busy parents, casual players, or anyone who loves dressing up, this guide shows that even without mods, you can craft beautiful and memorable moments. Above all, it’s a reminder that fun, creativity, and a touch of magic can be found anywhere—even in the comfort of your own home.
